CNC Grondstoffen is an important player in substrates for mushroom cultivation. They deliver to customers across Europe, who are completely dependent on on-time deliveries. Within the EU, this happens in bulk, while deliveries outside the EU are shipped in packages. A delay can make the compost unusable and thus have major consequences for cultivation. So the challenge is huge. Fortunately, CNC Grondstoffen BV in Van de Kamp has found a reliable partner that ensures punctual deliveries even in case of unexpected situations.
To tackle this logistical challenge, Van de Kamp transports around 20 CNC trailers to customers in Northern, Central and Southern Italy every week. Hans-Jurgen explains: “We combine road transport with intermodal transport to guarantee just-in-time deliveries. Our drivers load the cargo in Milsbeek, after which the entire truck gets on the train in Freiburg. In this way, we not only save time, but also CO2 emissions. In addition, drivers can take their mandatory rest during the train ride, so that they can immediately go to the growers when they arrive in Italy.”
Hans-Jurgen continues: “At CNC, we load our Walking Floor trailers in the morning. The next morning, we deliver to growers in northern Italy, followed by an afternoon delivery to growers near Rome. Our planners and drivers speak Italian, know the routes and are in direct contact with growers. That's so handy!”
Of course, there are also challenges. Hans-Jurgen explains: “Sometimes the train doesn't run and we switch quickly to find a solution. In doing so, our planners work closely with CNC colleagues to ensure that the compost still arrives on time. It requires flexibility and creativity, but that's what we're here for.”
Efficient loading for the way back is another important aspect of the collaboration. Hans-Jurgen explains: “We strive to always drive back to the Netherlands with full cars. CNC understands that well and together we coordinate the rides as optimally as possible. So efficient!”
